About Munchies
30 years ago in October 1990, I started up Munchies Sandwich Parlour in Church road Burgess Hill selling handmade sandwiches and rolls. From that little shop we catered for many weddings, had 4 sandwich rounds going out to local companies delivering lunches and business buffets.
Then 10 years ago we had outgrown our little shop and moved to our current shop in Valebridge Road, Burgess Hill.
For the last 10 years we have supplied The Princess Royal Hospital League of Friends coffee shop with sandwiches and cakes. With the extra space we turned it into a café as well as a takeaway sandwich bar.
I am also involved in organising the Worlds End Duck Fair which we brought back to the community in 2019 after 12 years. Thousands of people went along and the event raised more than £5,000 for St Peter & St James Hospice. Sadly, in 2020, the event had to be cancelled due Covid-19.
Munchies was forced to shut for six months due to the coronavirus pandemic, but when the Cafe reopened its owner, we made helping others a priority.
During October 2020 we offered free packed lunches to schoolchildren after the Conservative Government voted against Marcus Rashford’s campaign to extend free school meals (FSM) over the holidays to stop children going hungry – Prime Minister Boris Johnson has since u-turned on his decision.
“I would hate to think of anyone not being able to have a hot meal a day just because they can’t get out. During half term we supplied families with free packed lunches. We also launched our Sunday roast dinners and puddings (not available during the summer) and are getting some lovely comments on Facebook.”
